The 4th

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, mostly because it is a guaranteed day off of work and summer is in full effect! Below are some of my favorite holiday vintage and handmade items! Have a great 3-day weekend!

Food Embroidery

On Craftzine's blog today they posted a picture of a piece of real life toast with an embroidered egg on it by Judith Klausner. I have seen people do food embroidery before and thought it was terrible but this is pretty rad. Check out Judith's other work with food, manti (plural for mantis?) and fingernail clippings!

Craft Night Idea

Visiting craft fairs and perusing boutiques that carry homemade items are great ways to gain inspiration. There is so much amazing stuff to buy and so many new ideas to gain from seeing other people's crafty work.

A few weeks ago at the Renegade Craft Fair, I came across a booth selling cat toys! The seller Kitty Jones was selling some cute and innovative cat toys! People were crammed in her booth (no surprise). "Kitty, can you please post some tutorials on how to make your stuff? Cat toys are a great craft night idea and you are so creative!"

As I mentioned in a previous post about cat adoption, cats are much more likely to be adopted if they are surrounded by items like a kitty bed with bright colors or if they have toys to play with in their cage to show their potential parent a little more of their personality and for them to look cute as can be playing.

I propose having a cat toy craft night and donating all of the toys to local pet shelters.

Thank you Wool & The Gang for sharing the GIANT KNITS from Nanna Van Blaaderen and Johan Ku! They remind me of the giant granny square ottomans that Dana Barnes creates.

Leather Macrame

leathermacrametwo

At the Brooklyn Renegade Craft fair this past weekend, I came across the Brooklyn Haus booth and it looked like the inside of a greenhouse. They carried some great handmade bags and pillows but the winning items that grabbed my attention were the leather macrame plant hangers. They are really great looking and I bet after the weather gets to them they look even better. Check out the Etsy store for Brooklyn Haus!

Baby Gifts!

I am slowly but surely getting to that age where my girlfriends are getting knocked up & the sight of a pregnant woman makes my heart skip a beat. Since I don't think I could knit another baby blanket without going cross-eyed, I found some amazing (aka better than booties) handmade baby gifts online that you can copy at home, or you can just buy them!
